This view gives insight into a portfolio return by showing each position's performance. To access this view, select the Performance tab and:
- click the magnifier icon next to the portfolio return
- or click the label right to the chart
After you click, the return analysis screen appear. It is divided in two parts: a returns and ranking chart, and a details table.
Returns and ranking chart
The top half of the screen is a chart ranking the positions by performance:
The returns are calculated using the IRR (Internal Rate of Return) method. Returns include the effect of rebalancing and dividends, if any.
The above view shows the individual returns for each position. A complementary view shows how positions contributed to the portfolio return: click on Gains ($) to rank positions according to their gains and losses in absolute value.
Details table
The bottom half of the screen shows details for each position. You can order the table according to different criteria by clicking the column headers.
For each position, the following data is available:
- Begin value: the value at the beginning of the period
- Net flows: the sum of all positions inflows and outflows. This includes:
- buy/sell transactions
- transfer of securities
- dividends/interest income that is not reinvested
- End value: the value at the end of the period
- Gains: the return (in $) for the position. This includes:
- realized gains
- unrealized gains
- dividends and interest
- Return (%). This is the IRR total return, including:
- realized gains
- unrealized gains
- dividends and interest
