Follow -at minimum- these security best practices:
- Ensure that automatic security updates are enabled for your computer and devices
- Install anti-virus software
- Use strong passwords. For your email account, use a password that is different from the password used for other sites. If you find that having multiple passwords is difficult to manage, you can use a password manager such as LastPass (lastpass.com)
- Whenever possible, use two-step authentication.
- Use automated, encrypted backup for your computers and devices. Verify on a regular basis that you can restore files from backup.
- Do not connect to a free-wifi unsecured hotspot, unless you have a VPN setup
- Draft security policies for your firm. Communicate to employees and conduct training on a regular basis
