You can compare up to 3 additional items to any portfolio or model you are viewing. These comparisons help you to evaluate your primary portfolio alongside other investment options.
Comparisons can be:
- Other portfolios or models
- Indexes
- Individual securities
When you add a comparison to a portfolio, your selections are remembered for that specific portfolio, making it easy to maintain consistent analysis across multiple viewing sessions.
Adding Comparisons
To add a comparison to your portfolio:
- Open the portfolio you want to analyze in the Portfolio View
- Click on the Compare button (located below the performance metrics)
- Select the type of comparison you want to add:
- Another portfolio or model
- An index
- An individual security
- You can add up to 3 comparisons in addition to your main portfolio
Viewing Comparisons
Comparisons are displayed differently depending on which analysis tab you are viewing:
Performance and Risk Pages
On these pages, you will see all 4 items (your main portfolio plus up to 3 comparisons) displayed side by side. This allows you to easily compare:
- Performance metrics
- Risk indicators
- Historical returns
- Various statistical measures
- And more
Allocation, Expenses, and Income Tabs
On these tabs, you will see:
- Your main portfolio (Portfolio A)
- The second comparison only (Portfolio B)
This two-column view is optimized for direct comparison of allocation breakdowns, expense ratios, and income projections.
Important: Portfolio B is synchronized across all tabs in the Portfolio View. When you select a comparison to serve as Portfolio B, it will be the same comparison used on all analysis tabs, ensuring consistency throughout your analysis.
Managing Comparisons
Your comparison selections are portfolio-specific, meaning:
- Each portfolio can have its own set of comparisons
- Comparisons you select will be remembered each time you open that portfolio
- Whether the comparison is a model, index, asset, or another portfolio, it will remain associated with your main portfolio until you remove it
Removing Comparisons
To remove a comparison:
- Open the portfolio in Portfolio View
- Locate the comparison you wish to remove
- Click the X button next to that comparison
Use Cases
Comparisons are particularly useful for:
- Benchmarking a client portfolio against a proposed model
- Comparing performance against relevant indexes
- Evaluating the impact of adding a specific security to a portfolio
- Demonstrating the benefits of your proposed portfolio strategy to clients
- Side-by-side analysis of different investment approaches
